Bright colors and bold geometric patterning characterize the 18th-century carpets woven in the Kuba district of Caucasus, a remote region between the Black and Caspian Seas. Local textiles reflect an exotic combination of design contributions from the many religions and cultures of the nomadic peoples who populated the area. This design has been adapted from an original antique rug in Colonial Williamsburg's collections.
